The Jewel that was ours by Colin Dexter(Inspector Morse #9)

Rating:3.5/5
Finished On:27th of November 2013

The Jewel that was ours is the #9  novel in the Inspector Morse series. This was my first novel of the series.
It's a whodunit mystery.

A group of American elderly tourists have come for the tour of Oxford city. When one of the tour member dies on account of massive coronary and her handbag containing a jewel of considerable historical significance is stolen, Chief Inspector Morse is brought for investigation.Adding to this is the murder of the person to whom the jewel was to be given ie keeper of the Anglo Saxon and medieval antiquities at the Ashmolean museum and who is by way arrogant and a ladies man who most people seem to despise. Whether these cases are connected or entirely unconnected, Inspector Morse has to solve the mystery.
Inspector Morse is eccentric and drinks a lot but people like him in spite of his eccentricity. He's brilliant but is shown to make mistakes which makes his character more believable.

The book was fast paced read. There was never a dull moment and it keeps you guessing till the end.
I like the book and will definitely check out the other books in the series. If you like a whodunit mystery, you should give it a go.
