Its a short story by Chuck Palahniuk. It's a story about a couple and shows how a relation which is supposed to be based on trust and love is actually based on lies and manipulations.

Rachel and Ted are married to each other. They have a visually challenged daughter,April. When the story starts, Rachel has gone for a meeting out of town and she calls home. She asks her husband to give phone to her daughter. When her daughter refuses to talk to her a week, Rachel gets suspicious that her husband has done something to her daughter so that he could have a revenge on her. These thoughts are propelled by the guilt that Rachel feels for manipulating her husband through lies many times in the course of their marriage.

The story was an OK read. There was nothing spectacular about  it. It was a good story but i guess i had more expectations from it as i had read such rave reviews about it. But it's definitely worth reading.

Some quotes from the book:

'She was used to explaining issues to Ted. She knew he'd never be brilliant. That was his chief charm. He was loyal and even tempered, and Ted was a hard worker if you stayed on top of him and told him what to do. She'd married him for all the reasons she might hire a long term employee.'

'The problem in educating stupid people was that they didn't know they were stupid. The same went for curing crazy people.'

'There were lies that married two people more  effectively than any wedding vows.'
